Have you wondered which is the most expensive cryptopunk? If you don’t, then this guide on the top 10 most expensive cryptopunk will make your spine tingle.

NFTs are now represented globally by CryptoPunks. The most popular punk release to date has just been a CryptoPunk NFT. The collection, which is more than three years old, had previously been largely unknown, but with the growth of NFT popularity, it has now emerged as one of the most valuable in the NFT market.

CryptoPunks is one of the NFT initiatives that doesn’t fall behind on the conditions of money. There really are NFTs that were sold or bought for millions.

The appeal of the pixelated figures with distinctive personalities and accouterments like pipes or cigarettes merely goes to prove how powerful an NFT is on its own.

Larva Labs, a two-person development firm that works on a wide range of projects from smartphone games and applications to web infrastructures to digital design and art, created CryptoPunks. With references to the London punk scene, cyberpunk literature, and movies, the team created a pixelated character generator.

In 2017, they produced 10,000 distinctive characters and stored them on the Ethereum blockchain. A CryptoPunk was available for the free claim to anyone interested.

Before NFTs and DeFi took off, the cost of computing energy was much lower, thus they would simply need to pay the gas fee to cover it.

1,000 portraits were preserved by Larva Labs for personal use, but the others were immediately taken. Today, buying a CryptoPunk straight from its owner is the only way to get one.

The top spot on the NFT sales statistics for CryptoPunk 7804 didn’t last long, as Beeple’s digital art collage Everyday quickly sold for an unbelievable $69.3 million.

The decision to buy CryptoPunk 7804 was taken by Dylan Field, CEO of Figma, and it was Field who first compared the NFT to the Mona Lisa this makes its position in the top 3 most expensive cryptopunk.

In a conversation with Protocol about the transaction, Field stated,

CryptoPunk is the first creation, and I honestly believed that it was a digital replica of the Mona Lisa. This is undoubtedly the best CryptoPunk, in my opinion, out of all of them. And when people want CryptoPunks, everyone will want it.

Although CryptoPunk 7804 isn’t currently for sale, the $87.64 million bid that was submitted and withdrawn on October 29, 2021, leaves up the question of how much this NFT will be worth in the future.

2. CryptoPunk 3100 — $7.67 Million

This list of the priciest NFTs from Larva Labs to date includes CryptoPunk 3100, which is the most understated punk and also 2nd among the most expensive cryptopunk.

The sale occurred at a time when non-fungible tokens continued to gain popularity but traditional crypto assets saw a falling market sentiment as uncertainty increased.

The owner of CryptoPunk 3100 has great expectations for his investment and announced their aim to sell the asset for $91 million in late November 2021. (or 35,000 ETH).

Around the time of the sale, the second lot of nine extremely rare CryptoPunks went for $16.9 million at Christie’s, and over the course of seven days, NFT sales totaled $115 million.

Although a buyer has not yet agreed to purchase CryptoPunk 3100 at the high asking price of the present owner, such a deal would put this NFT far ahead of the most costly token currently offered by Larva Labs.

Bonus — Recently, The Most Expensive CryptoPunk Sold for $23.7M.

The most expensive CryptoPunk yet was a unique one that sold for 8,000 ETH ($23.7 million USD) on February 12.

CryptoPunk #5822 was the punk that was purchased. Not only is it one of the 10,000 NFTs’ collection’s nine aliens, but it’s also one of just 333 that do so.

This CryptoPunk is currently owned by Deepal Thapliyal, CEO of the blockchain technology business Chain. He also amasses additional non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and in January of the current year, he spent $5.8 million on a rare Mutant Ape Yacht Club serum.

According to an earlier story from The Block, another Alien Punk sold for $11.8 million at the Sotheby’s auction house in June 2021 and was purchased using USD rather than ETH.

However, according to the developers of CryptoPunks, #4156, which sold for 2,500 ETH ($10.2 million USD) in December 2021, was the second-highest selling CryptoPunk by USD.

Its unsurprising that this CryptoPunk sale went for this much. There have been some CryptoPunks that have sold for hefty sums of money, sometimes reaching the tens of millions. Since its first release, the CryptoPunk collection has witnessed a cumulative trade volume of almost $9.3 billion.

When Thapliyal bought CryptoPunk #5822, he claimed to have used his Compound Finance account as leverage. It’s vital to remember that the CEO had bought one of the more uncommon CryptoPunks.

There are just nine items in the collection that are classified as “aliens,” including this one. This explains why it, along with its eight other alternatives, costs so much.

It is not the most costly NFT sold to date, despite its high price. That honor comes to Beeple’s Everydays NFT sale, which completely dominated the market. The artwork set a record that has yet to be broken when it sold for a staggering $69 million.

Why Cryptopunks Are So Expensive?

The fact that Cryptopunks is the first NFT collection ever to be produced on the ETH blockchain makes them important overall. The photos themselves might not be the most gorgeous, but there are only 10,000 Cryptopunks available, meaning that very few people can buy one.

A Cryptopunk is in high demand, yet there aren’t many on the market, which is a classic example of supply and demand. Even if there are 10,000 Cryptopunks around the globe, not all of them are now for sale.

As a result, there are now even fewer Cryptopunks available, which raises the price even more. As the same number of hands are chasing fewer goods, a lower supply raises the price.

It is now obvious that Cryptopunks appear to be here to stay when major corporations like Visa purchase one. The number of Cryptopunks available for purchase is dwindling.

Nobody is currently offering his Cryptopunk for sale on Opensea as of the time this article was written. Owners of Cryptopunks have given their Punk a great deal of sentimental significance and don’t want to sell them.

Cryptopunks are valued to rise rapidly, according to several cryptocurrency aficionados including the YouTuber The Moon. Carl at The Moon compares a Cryptopunk to a Picasso since there are so few of them available for purchase and because they stand for much more than just a plain pixelated image.

Closing Thoughts

The present most expensive cryptopunk NFT may be dwarfed in future sales given that the total value of CryptoPunk NFT prices exceeds hundreds of millions.

Online sources claimed that Punk #9998 was sold for 124,457.07 Ether, or a staggering $532,414 million, in October 2021. Although this sale proved to be a false alarm, it shows that the value of these non-fungible tokens may be about to soar in the future.

The priciest crypto punk NFTs ever sold seem destined to remain sought-after items in the just-emerging metaverse as their desirability — and rarity — attracts more high-profile investors.

Celebrities Are Entering the NFT World

Celebrities have been purchasing NFTs over the past few months, particularly from the CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club collections.

CryptoPunk NFTs are owned by well-known public figures like Jason Derulo and Jay-Z. Their Twitter profile pictures are both images from their CryptoPunk NFT. Neymar Jr., though, has now joined the likes of DJ Khaled, Eminem, and other well-known figures in the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection.

By introducing their own NFT line, other celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Gal Yosef are breaking into the market.

The NFT industry has drawn millions of people. Many newcomers will feel more at ease entering the space as more superstars enter the NFT sphere.
